Hi.
I'm running ie11, and keep getting the message "this page cannot be displayed".

I've googled the message and it appears that others are having the same problem. I've tried all the suggestions,--most of which have to do with running ie without add-ons. Nothing effects it.

This has gotten so bad that Ive considered using fire fox (yuck).

Anyway, has anyone else had this problem, and how did they solve it?

Thanks,
Bob

I don’t know the suggestions, so what I’m going to say, you may have.
You have reasons for this, and I’m assuming Firefox isn’t working any better.
If you are wireless, your connection dies for a bit, so your page comes up missing.
You need to reset IE back, and I mean completely, so that it is brand new, because sometimes it gets silly.
This involves going to options and resetting it even your custom settings.
When you restart the computer and open it, you go to a Microsoft page that welcomes you, and you choose your settings.
Worst case, you turn it off in Windows, restart the computer, and turn it back on.
I can’t solve your issue, if it is your wireless or router.
Say more on it, and let’s see if we can get you fixed.

Yeah. This error can occur for a multitude of reasons, and with only the info you've thus far provided it's impossible to say why it's happening to you.

Okay, let's see.

It doesn't happen with firefox, and, though the message seems to imply that it has to do with my router, I don't think it really is the problem.

It comes up with a "fix connection problems" button, which I've pressed until I'm blue in the face. Of course, maybe I'm always blue in the face, how's a blind guy to know? The response from pressing that button is always "Microsoft couldn't find the problem".

The problem is very inconsistent--it may happen two or three times in a row, then, I usually do a restart when that happens, then it won't happen again for a long time.

I have only found one place where it happens consistently. And I'll go get a good URL to show you what I mean.

Back later.

If pages are loading normally in Firefox, I don't think it's your connection.
Still, are you connecting via Ethernet, or are you using a wireless connection?
I haven't experienced this problem myself, but I would tend to agree that maybe a setting got messed up or something. Have you recently ran Windows Update? This might have screwed something up, too, if IE updated itself.

Open a command prompt (cmd in run), leave it open and start browsing. When you get page can't be displayed, switch to the command prompt and type
ping google.com
and see what happens. If you get a response as it sounds like you will, you can be sure it's not your connection. If it can't resolve then it may well be a connection issue.

could be malware, could be as simple as resetting IE settings Tools internet options, advanced tab, reset.
